The READY Afterschool Program (Recreation – Enrichment – Academics – Devoted to Youth) is the afterschool program operated at each elementary school sites within the Hanford Elementary School District. The purpose of the READY Program is to provide a safe, enriching and nurturing environment for children in an afterschool setting.
The READY Program provides a safe place for children, assists working families and improves student’s academic achievement. The program provides homework assistance and tutoring; reinforcements for Reading, Writing and Math skills; fun educational games that are curricular related, and recreation/enrichment activities that will develop and increase their self-confidence, self esteem, and social skills.
Attendance: It is expected that each child will attend the program daily. Any child who has 5 unexcused absences from READY will be dropped from the program. It is also expected
that students will stay for the entire duration of the program each day. If you need to pick up a child early, it is your responsibility to speak with the Lead Tutor.
Student Pick-Up: Safety is a top priority; therefore no child will be allowed to walk home. You will pick your child up in the school cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. If your child is not signed out by 6:10 p.m., the School Administrator will make the decision on where to take the student. After three (3) times of your child not being picked up by 6:10 p.m., your child will be dropped from the program.
Discipline: Participation in the program is a privilege. Your child will be expected to follow the HESD's Student Conduct Code at all times during the READY Program. Disruptive or disrespecful behavior toward other students and/or program staff is reason for dismissal. We encourage parents/guardians to discuss concerns with the Lead Tutor or School Administration.
Responsibility: It is the student's responsibility to bring their homework to the program. The parent/guardian should check homework when their child gets home every single day. The READY Program staff will make sure that your child understands their homework and will provide time for them to work on it.
Students should get to the program immediately after school to check in with program staff. Students seen hanging around the playground or any area within or near the campuses will be considered truant. Three (3) times of truancy will be a reason for dismissal from the program.
It is important that we are able to contact parents/guardians when needed. Therefore, it is the parent/guardian responsibility to notify the READY staff of any change of address or telephone number.
In addition, school rules, policies and procedures apply.
Conduct Violation Consequences:
1st Parent Notification
2nd Parent Notification/Referral to Lead Tutor and/or School Administration
3rd Parent Notification/Conference with Lead Tutor and/or School Administration, Parent/Guardian and Student – Suspension
from the Program – length to be determined.
4th Dismissal from the READY Afterschool Program
We encourage parents and guardians to read this basic information and rules with the entire family.
If there should be questions and concerns, please feel free to call the administrator at your child’s school site.
Together, we can continue to have a successful afterschool program for the best interest of our children.
