School Year: 2013-2014
READY Program Tutor
$13.19 – $16.04/hr.
ASSIGNMENT: Beginning school year: 2013-2014; Site to be determined – 4.5 hrs. per day. Regularly assigned shift is: 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except Wednesday’s schedule starts at 1:00 p.m. (Grant funded position.)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: To assist in the supervision and training of students enrolled in the Recreation Enrichment Academics Devoted to Youth (READY) program. Provide various supportive services in order to carry out activities to improve the attendance, academic performance and general well being of students enrolled in the READY program. Grant funded program.
REQUIREMENTS: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Must meet the following requirements as defined in the NCLB Act of January 2002 Section 1119 of ESEA: Complete two years of higher education study, OR Hold or Obtain an Associate’s degree OR Pass a formal state or local academic assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching, reading, writing, and mathematics or reading, writing and mathematics readiness (Paraprofessional Exam). Must also pass the High School Proficiency Test (or hold CBEST), and have completed or in progress to complete 12 units of college level course-work. Experience in working with children. A valid First Aid and basic C.P.R. card and Bilingual skills highly desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment: Indoor and outdoor environment.
Physical Abilities: Seeing to monitor student behavior during academic activities, hearing and speaking to exchange information related to activities, bending at the waist, kneeling, standing, crouching, walking for extending periods of time, jumping, running hopping and skipping to participate with children in activities, ability to tolerate heat in an outside setting, and to tolerate noise and traffic. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment; and ability to lift students weighing up to 50 lbs.

Applications that are over a year old will not be accepted; a new application must be completed. You will need to register to take the Proficiency Test given by the Kings County Office of Education (584-1441, Ext. 2500), if you have not already taken and passed this test and the Paraprofessional Exam if you do not meet the NCLB through education.
