Dear Parents/Guardians:

I am very excited about having your child in my Algebra/Science core this year and look forward to a successful year.  This website is for your reference on how to better assist your child with their Algebra/Science Homework.  Our new Algebra Curriculum can be found online at go.hrw.com or click on the link provided on the left.  A calendar with each homework assignment can be accessed on the Internet with links to online videos and quizzes to reinforce material taught in class and help with their homework.  This is an amazing resource and hope you find its benefits.

The California Standards that your child will be covering are intense and will require daily completion of class work and homework.  With this new textbook, your child will enter a keyword to log in and have access to the many online opportunities/resources provided by the Holt Company.  I encourage you as the parent to get involved with your child’s junior high experience.  It will be your son or daughters top priority to keep track and complete their homework on a daily basis, entering assignments into their daily planner and study for tests.  Please check your child’s planner daily to ensure homework is complete and awareness to important upcoming dates.

*The grading rubric for homework and test will be as follows

Grading Scale

Grade %                                                       Letter Grade

100% - 90%                  Excellent/Advanced                   A

79% - 70%                    Average/Basic                         C

69% - 60%                    Minimal Progress/Below Basic         D

59% -  0%                    No Progress/Far Below Basic          F

If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to e-mail me at the following address: tpaden@hesd.k12.ca.us.  Please do not hesitate to call me or send an e-mail anytime you have a question or concern regarding your child’s progress. I will make every effort to be available to provide extra assistance for your son or daughter.  Tutoring is available at 7:30am, Brunch or Lunch.   Tutoring after school is not available, due to prior commitments.

If you feel that it is necessary, you may set up an appointment with me to discuss your child’s progress.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to a productive and enthusiastic year.

Sincerely,

Mr. Paden
